In the last post on ‘Best Bedside Tables’ I told you guys that the absolute best bedside table you can own is a mirrored chest of drawers! It’s gorgeous, super stylish and really useful! But the sad truth is it’s not easily available in India and is very expensive too Don’t you worry ladies, your saviour is here! Here is the step-by-step tutorial on how to make a mirrored drawer chest…let’s begin

These are some absolutely ravishing mirrored nghtstands and I love each and every one of them! But can I buy one? NO. They are not available in India :(

Now let’s see how we can convert any of the old chest of drawers lying at home into a beautiful modred mirrored look.

One of the first things you need to do is to thoroughly clean and sand the old drawers.

Obviously we won’t be able to cover all of it with glass so we will paint it to resemble glass. Haha you see I’m quite clever! Now we need to carefully spray paint all of it a metallic shiny silver. I used Krylon paint but here is another paint which is quite good and is easily available in India.

Getting to the most essential part of the mirrored drawers now…the mirror of course!! You need to carefully measure all the flat surfaces that would be covered with glass, ie, the front of the drawers, the sides and the top. Subtract 1/4 of an inch from all measurements, we don’t want the mirror to stick out and hurt anyone do we now! Measure the placement of holes from drawer handles too. You can get the mirror from any glass shop near you, the rates in Gurgaon were:

Mirror — Rs. 80-90/ sq. ft

Sanding on edges — Rs. 10/ sq. ft

Holes for handles — Rs. 25/ hole

After you get all the pieces carefully cut and sanded it’s time to start sticking them to the drawer chest. You need industry level glue, Araldite is one really good brand that does the job. The sides are the hardest and scariest to glue. The top is obviously the easiest – some tape and heavy books helped keep the mirror in place – but the sides are so nerve-wracking. Would the piece of mirror fall over in the middle of the night? No need to worry – the mirror adhesive glue means serious business.

The drawers are pretty easy as well. Set them upright, glued them, stick the mirror on and and let it set. One important thing I forgot to mention earlier was that you need to buy new sparkly glass knobs for the drawers, the shinier the better

Screw in the new knobs in the already drilled in holes in the mirror and put the drawers back in their place and you are done!!

I would not call it easiest of the old furniture upgrade projects but it’s definitely one of the most rewarding. The mirrored chest of drawers is an absolutely stunning piece of furniture to own and you will be so very proud you made it yourself! Trust me! :)
